I enjoy traveling. Love of traveling has taken me to all 50 states and 31 countries. That includes living and flying along the Amazon in Brazil for six years. I have so many experiences that I have shared with others, but have never written them down. That will be the subject of one of my upcoming blogs.

How to Start Your Own Blog in Less than 15 Minutes

Creating a blog is nothing that you need to be afraid of. There is no elaborate planning required either. However, there are a few things you would need to decide. Since these blogging service providers give you a lot of choice in terms of template and color themes, you would need to make those decisions yourself.

The following is a quick guide of what to think over before creating your blog:

  • Theme: Determine what you would be writing about or the nature of the content that you would be sharing with your readers. This depends mainly on your interest. Topics blogging to the field of politics, poetry, arts, current affairs, or almost anything under the sun can be chosen. You can stick to one theme or can you choose to write about whatever concerns you on a day to day basis. Since it is your very own web journal, you can make it as flexible as possible in all aspects.
  • Blogging Provider: Next you need to decide upon which blogging service provider you would like to use. This depends on the kind of reviews that you get about them from friends and acquaintances, or something about them that you may have read online. Otherwise you can always try out something and find out if you like it. You can try out one of these popular sites: Blogger.com, WordPress.com, Typepad, Blogagotchi.com, Lifejournal.com, JournalHome.com, TheDiary.org, Mindsay.com, Blog.com, Diaryland.com, Blogdrive.com, or Xanga.com
  • Templates: A wide range of templates will be made available on any blogging service you decide to start your blog. Select the one you most prefer or like.
  • Freebies: The advantage with these blogging service providers is that they make your blogging experience as dynamic and interactive as possible. They enable you to install add-on features that include buttons, pictures, blog chalks, imoods, tagboards such as myshoutbox.com, guest maps, guestbooks, comment boxes for readers’ thoughts and views, etc.
  • Additional Features: These interesting ones may not be free. By paying a price you can get them.
  • Nature of Blog: You must determine who should read your blog—shether you want it to be read only by a select circle, or must it be open to all. This will depend upon the content, mainly.
  • Layout: Again there will be a wide range to choose from in terms of layout and color schemes.
  • Content: You could pick up a specific theme and write about it consistently, or merely decide on any random topic as and when it interest you. You could try putting up content for a while and see the kind of response you get, and alter or modify it accordingly.
  • Blogging Circle: Blogging is a great way to come in touch with people from across the globe. You can surg and visit other people’s blogs. Do not spam in their comment section, but write a genuine comment if you have something to say about a particular post.
  • Skins: You can customize and personalize your blog as much as you want. Using software like Photoshop you can create your own skins and make your blog attractive as well as make it reflect your own personality.
  • Publish: Finally, when you are done selecting the setting and preferences, selecting a content to put up, you need to publish the content. Do not however, forget to send the link to your blog to your friends and acquaintances so that they may come visit you.

Once you have started your blog, you will have noticed that it hardly takes fifteen minutes to do so. Maintaining the blog is even easier. Here are a few tips that would help you successfully keep your blog going:

  • Update: Update frequently; otherwise, visitors may stop coming to your blog. It will also give you more confidence to churn out more well-worded posts in the future.
  • Personalize: Even though you might be discussing general and universal themes, add your own personal touch to make things lighter and interesting.
  • Theme: If you have a theme blog, you can Google for other blogs of a similar kind and build your network.
  • Spelling and Grammar: Make sure you proofread your posts. Spelling and grammatical errors can be a major putt-off for many readers.
  • Advertisements: You could play host to sites like Google AdSense and earn revenue by placing their links on your blog.

Make Money Blogging – Different Approaches to Make Money Blogging

By Stavros Georgiadis

Blogging continues to grow in popularity as journalists, teenagers, and other Internet enthusiasts add content to their blogs. They also work hard in getting as many visitors as possible to encourage them to supply even more content and possibly improve the design as well. Some of these people like to blog simply because they are very passionate about the topics that they cover. Larger companies even have their own blogs to keep their customers informed. There are also an increasing number of people that want to make money through blogging. Making money through blogging is all about choosing your favorite approach.

Setting up a Blog with Advertisements

If you want to go the easy route, all you need to do is set up a blogging application like WordPress and add any content that your target audience will find interesting. After you added a few blog posts, do some basic Internet marketing by showing your blog link to friends via social networking. Once you notice your blog is having daily traffic, you can rearrange your blog layout to incorporate advertisements. When placing advertisements, it is important to put them in noticeable areas in such a way that they block the important and disturb the reader. It is also important to make sure the advertisements are related to the blog content so it attracts visitors.

If finding relevant advertisements is tough, you can try an advertisement application like Google AdSense. This service uses the pay-per-click model so you can make money by letting others click on your ads as long as you follow their Terms of Agreement. After your ads are placed in good spots, simply work harder in marketing your blog using other Internet marketing techniques. An alternative to this is to leave a space for advertisements and let your visitors contact you if they wish to put ads. You charge any amount you see is reasonable for both sides.

Blogging for Other People

Although it is simple to set up your own blog these days, you still need to take some time to set up your web host and think about making your blog attractive to your target market. Fortunately there are many webmasters that sport fantastic blogs that look ready to impress a lot of visitors. What some of these webmasters need is some content by skilled writers. Either the webmaster does not have the knowledge in making quality content or does not have the time in adding new entries. You can help these webmasters if they are looking for writers so you can earn money directly from them. These people usually pay by word count or per post. Look for blogging opportunities the same way you look for online jobs.

Before trying these approaches, understand that it takes some time to make money. The amount that you make may be small at first, but if you alternately add new content and do your marketing, your blog should thrive and the advertising revenue should increase. If your blog’s popularity rivals some of the popular blogs on the net, you could earn a lot by selling your blog in the end.

Tips on Writing

Kill your fear of writing with these tips on writing. Nightmares of English composition class stifle many would-be bloggers. As a first-time blogger, take a deep breath then take the plunge with these tips.

Tip 1 – Just write. Go ahead, open up that document and start writing. Whatever pops in your head, write it down. Just let the thoughts tumble out. You’re just interested in getting the creative juices flowing. And flow, they will. Don’t worry about spelling or punctuation. You won’t turn this in to your high school teacher.

Tip 2 – Write about what captures your interest. What compels you to seek information? What do you REALLY like to talk about given half a chance? Words pour out when you have passion about the subject. Added benefit—you become an authority. People listen to authorities.

Tip 3 – Use short, action words. Verbs, used correctly, pack a punch. Leap, bounce or hop mean the same as overworked jump or less understood ascend.

Tip 4 – Tell the story so it makes sense to the reader. As you do, keep it simple. Short, concise sentences hold the reader’s attention longer.

Tip 5 – Paint a picture. Which sentence paints a better one? “Short, concise sentences hold the reader’s attention longer.” Now, try this one. “Short, concise sentences keep the reader’s eyes glued to the story.”

Tip 6 – Read it out loud. What a difference this makes! You ears catch those words and sentences that don’t “sound” right; your eyes just didn’t see them. Make the changes; then read it aloud again.

Tip 7 – Proofread. Now it’s time to check spelling, grammar and punctuation. It’s easier to proofread if you print it out; at least it is for me.

Tip 7 – Ask someone else to read it. This takes courage. You’ve labored over this. It’s your baby, and visions of red ink on those high school papers make you heart pound. My son described it this way, “It looks like he skinned a squirrel all over my paper.”  Talk about painting a picture!

Tip 8 – Accept criticism. Ray Bradbury once said, “You have to know how to accept rejection and reject acceptance.” Good advice AND encouragement.

Tip 9 – Keep Writing. Don’t stop with this one. The more you write, the better you get.

Tips On Blogging

Most everyone starts out blogging just for the fun of it. Many continue to do that, but there are several ways to turn your fun into profit at the same time. That is what Blog Profit is all about. Here are some additional tips on blogging that can make you blogging more effective.

Bloggers often have several web logs, such as those I mentioned in Best Blog Sites. Each one can have its own topic and appeal to different groups of people. Some can even have related topics. One might be on gaming headsets. Another might be on the games themselves. In that case, they would appeal to the same group of people.

Typically, you go to each blog, write the content on that particular site and then publish it. But what if you have something that you would like to share with all your sites at one time, like an announcement? That’s where a free, downloadable program called Posterous can be of great benefit.

This program broadcasts your message to all you blogs or to a particular group such as family, team, or colleagues. You choose.

So how does it work?

  • Create an account with them.
  • Click on “Manage” in the upper right hand corner.
  • Click on the “Autopost” tab.
  • Click on the “Add Service” button.
  • Choose the services that you want to set up for autoposting.
  • Click on the “Posts” tab and create your first Posterous post. Wait just a few minutes then go to the blogs and find the content posted!

Another nifty feature of this program is the “bookmarklet.”

  • Find the link to “bookmarklet” under the “Posts” tab in the grayed area below your lists of posts.
  • Click on the link.
  • Click and drag the “Share on Posterous” button to the bookmark bar. You’ll find the button in the “Get started” box.

Here’s what makes it such a time saver. Suppose you are reading an article, and you find something you want to post to your blogs. Simply highlight either the whole article or just a portion, click on the bookmarklet from the bookmark bar, then click “post.” The content goes to that directory listing and to the blogs you have linked in your Posterous account. This creates those important traffic-generating back links in all of your sites. There is even a comment box if you want to add your own comments before posting.

Here’s the best part, Posterous credits the exact url from which you got the content! This eliminates plagiarism.

I hope these tips on blogging have been helpful and I will be adding more in time.
